He is the winner of numerous writing awards, including the Kingsley Tufts award, and he holds the Bourne Poetry Chair at The Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta. |
MARJORY WENTWORTH is the Poet Laureate of South Carolina. She has twice been nominated for the Pushcart Prize. She is the author of Noticing Eden, a collection of poems. |
| STUART DYBEK’s books of fiction include The Coast of Chicago, Childhood and Other Stories, and I Sailed with Magellan. His most recent book of poems is Streets in Their Own Ink. He won the 1998 Lannan prize in fiction. His piece for Verb, My Malaria, was written in response to the Thomas Lux poem of the same name. It is the author’s first released song. |
TOM FRANKLIN won the 1999 Edgar award for the title story from his collection Poachers. His latest novel is Hell at the Breech. He is married to poet Beth Anne Fennelly.

HA JIN was born in mainland China and left that country after the Tienanmen Square massacre. He won the 1999 National Book Award for Waiting. His latest novel is War Trash. He teaches at Boston University.

JAMES DICKEY won the National Book Award for poetry in 1965 for his book Buckdancer’s Choice. His novel, Deliverance, was made into one of the most influential films of its era. He taught at the University of South Carolina from 1969 until his death in 1997. |
ROBERT OLEN BUTLER won the 1993 Pulitzer Prize in Fiction for A Good Scent from a Strange Mountain. He has published ten novels and three collections of short stories. His latest book is a collection of essays about writing, From Where you Dream.

Tom Gray is originally from Arlington, Virginia. He has written songs recorded by Cyndi Lauper (“Money Changes Everything”), Carlene Carter, Manfred Mann, and many other artists. Tom was the leader of the 1980s rock band The Brains and has since recorded and performed with a long list of vocalists and groups.
